Generation O uniform #1: "Fly Era" black uniforms drop

What was teased all spring is now starting to trickle out of the Duck mothership. "Generation O" uniform #1 was released today with an all-black set nicknamed the "Fly Era" and a bunch of hoopla including DAT and Black-mamba themed video! . According to Ducks Wire:

"At long last, the Ducks revealed the first look at their new uniforms for the coming season, unveiling an all-black jersey that features nods to designs from past uniforms in Oregon’s rotation.

The classic wings return on the helmet, while the collar area of the jerseys features diamond plating from back in the 2005 era, along with wings that resemble jerseys over the past decade.

There are expected to be a total of five different jerseys that will be unveiled as part of the “Generation O” series, but no timetable has been announced for when the next release will take place."

They broke the jersey down into these 4 elements that are mean something to the current crop of players and the last 25 years of Oregon accendancy and "stand on the shoulders of giants:

  • Diamond Plate: 2005-2008 Dennis Dixon era
  • Carbon Fiber: 2009-2011
  • Shoulder Wings: 2014-15 LaMichael, DAT, Marcus era
  • Numbers: 2018-2023 Justin Herbert

To me, this is not some wild new design, but a mishmash of current and previous looks.

  • The matte black helmet appears to have white wings in the current style. I like it.
  • Jersey has same style of numbers as past and BIG logo, but with a collar that has a mid 2000s diamond plate "necklace" and subtle shoulder carbon-fiber wing pattern that is new but reminiscent of past shoulder textures. Reminds me a bit of the Ohana uniform which was very popular.
  • Pants appear to be simple black, but all the poses released have the top of pants hidden so I cant see any logos or details. Simple is fine.
