With the 25-26 season wrapped up, here is a look back!
This season was long and varied with 15 games. The first three were very school-colored and then the Ducks went through a midseason black faze. The end of the season brought a bit more variety. Here are the number of the three main elements:
- Green: 14
- White: 13
- Black: 9
- Yellow: 6
- Gray (light and charcoal): 3
- All 3 mono: 3
- 2/3 same: 10
- All 3 different: 2
- Unique helmets: 11
- O helmet: 4
- Wings helmet: 11
The things that stood out to me:
- Much less yellow than in past seasons.
- Only two times when green and yellow were evenly used on a set
- No Bumble-bee look
- Usual variety of helmets, with only three shell/decal/mask looks repeated
- Much less O logo compared to wings
My personal ranking (and commentary) of their combos.
As with my 2024 rankings, I have a methodology that leans toward...
- favoring green and yellow uniforms
- liking "sandwich" looks that have matching helmet/pants
- putting up with all three elements being mono (but not preferred)
- disliking combos that have NO school colors
- disliking white pants paired with dark uppers/non-matching uppers. Save this for stormtrooper look.
15. Shoedog
I like the idea of special uniforms, but the final visual result is kinda meh. Too many small details like almost invisible marble and "inside-info" patches. Two different wings was cool, but kinda lost on the regular man. Charcoal black. gold, and white are not school colors.
14. Grateful Dead
Only saving grace is the green tie-dye, but not enough of it. Green wings on helmet and green pants would have elevated this to top 5.
13. Orange Bowl
Light gray pants in an important game is often kryptonite, but they bucked the trend so points for that. But still, it's a pretty bland combo, especially whne paired with black Texas Tech. Only slightly better than Shoedog due to the brighter jerseys.
12. USC game
Black wings on green is not my favorite look, but the glossy green is pretty. Like the Grateful Dead look, this would be higher with green pants to match helmet. (see below)
11. Penn State game
Mummy stuff is kinda random and (thankfully) almost invisible. I wish for such a big game they had more school colors. I like this combo better than the Orange Bowl one due its sandwich-style.
10. Indiana game
Maybe if they had won it would much higher. But at least it's got enough green and the combo with Indiana was pretty.
9. Rutgers game
Nice stormtrooper look, but dark iridescent green wings on helmet to match numbers would be nicer. And ditch the marble.
8. Peach Bowl
After the Orange Bowl, I like that the Ducks went more school color. The result of this game (and other postseasons in this look) will probbaly relegate this set to the back of the closet. It would have been better with yellow or green pants though. I only like white pants if helmet is white. (see below)
7. Minnesota game
Not a fan of white pants with darker jersey, but at least they match helmet, so a "sandwich look". Wish helmet had some yellow in stripe to coordinate with jersey.
6. Oklahoma State game
Mono green is a tad too much, but can't complain about apple green extravaganza-way better than all black or gray.
5. Northwestern game
I like green better than yellow, hence this ranking, but this set and the next two are all great road looks!
4. Iowa game
Just barely less appealing than the UW game, the white wings on green are only down vote. Better if they were yellow.
3. UW game
A nearly-perfect road uniform, as witnessed by this being the usual road combo in the 90s.
2. Playoff #1 vs. James Madison
A real beautiful new helmet and such saturated school colors. Yummy and bright on a damp December evening. Only difference between this and #1 is the green helmet. This would be my favorite if the jersey was yellow and pants green.
1. Montana State game week 1
A chef's kiss set. The right ratio of both fabulous green and yellow. And I honestly think the wings look cooler than the O.
