2025 Season schedule

The Big 10 announced next season schedule and the Ducks have 4 conference home games. The most taxing games appear to be at Penn State (but in Sept so no bad weather)

From uniform perspective:

1. Vs. Montana State: A blue and gold team. Hopefully a good game for green and yellow.

2. Vs. Oklahoma State: An orange and black team, so hopefully not a lot of black for the Ducks?

3. At Northwestern: A purple and black team, so hopefully yellow and white Ducks?

4. Civil War. Hopefully color on color.

5. At Penn State. They will most likely do white out, but blue jerseys? So anything possible with Oregon.

6-8. A bunch of red teams. Red, white and green? Merry early Christmas.

9. At Iowa. Black, yellow, white and green?

10. Vs. Minnesota and USC. Lots of maroon, yellow and green?

11. At Washington. Skys the limit.

Big 10 Championship Game, December 7, 2024

The Ducks are wearing green-black-black for the first time since the Belotti era—his last game to be exact.

The Ducks in 2007 and 2008 wore this combo 4 times, including the Sun Bowl and Holiday Bowl, just before  the Chip Kelly era. This was the era of the first shoulder designs-namely green with diamond plate, but still the mallard green color changing helmets that are much darker than this apple green. But fore that it was a very common home look when the shoulders and side stripes contrasted with the black uniform. This was a definitive Joey Harrington look.

IMHO, I wish they had gone more traditional and colorful vs. Penn State, but this dark look is similar to the 2 most important wins this season.

2008 Holiday Bowl win-the last game for Mike Belotti.

Week 14:November 30, 2024

Husky hate week! The first season where UW takes the place of OSU in the last game of the season during rivalry week!

The Ducks break out their gray pants to pair with their chrome helmets and black jersey.

Last time the Ducks wore gray-black-gray was in 2012 (only season loss to Stanford!) and 2011 (win vs ASU), but it was a carbon fiber helmet rather than chrome. This is the first chrome helmet and black jersey combo.

Against the Huskies i'd have preferred a more traditional look with green/yellow, especially this is the 30th anniversary year of "The Pick" and their throwbacks this year would have been very appropriate.

Looking good at the end of the season

The Ducks are off this week waiting for the Huskies to come to Autzen next week. But I wanted to look back at the last and only time the Ducks were 11-0, in December 2010.

The stakes for the 114th Civil War game were higher than for any of the previous meetings, with the Ducks assured of a spot in the national title game with a victory. In the then-BCS era—before the conference championship game, #1 Oregon had to win to stay in the top 2 of the BCS poll with Auburn and TCU nipping at its heals.

This was one of my all-time favorite Oregon uniform games, eventhough I tend to disdain all gray combos. I loved how in isolation, the Ducks kinda looked like they were in a grayscale image. And Oregon State has some wonderful "Giant Killer" 1967 throwback uniform.

  • The first-generation shoulder Northwest-native inspired wings— a classic staple of the Chip years— were first worn in game 10 of Bellotti's last season in 2008.
  • Gray first used week three 2009
  • This combo was the first time Oregon had worn just gray and white.
  • Only the second time to wear a gray/silver/chrome helmet, but fifth time wearing gray pants.

So what will the Ducks wear next week? Yellow-green-yellow would evoke the "The Pick" game from 1994,  or green-yellow-green, since they have not worn that combo yet.

Week 12: November 16, 2024

The Ducks' biggest road test against Wisconsin and they opted for black-white-black. With the Badgers opting for a "red out" it kinda reminds me of that old joke, "What's black and white and red all over?" (a newspaper)

This combo is similar to Oregon's win last season at Utah. Before 2023, the last time the Ducks wore this combo was 2015, and this year marks only the 5th time they have ever worn it. See the last few times they wore this combo.  For several years they opted for their Nightmare Green instead of black in this combo. The black helmet gets used for the 4th time this season, but with chrome facemask.

Week 11: November 9 , 2024

THIS is Oregon football folks! Third time in Dan Lanning tenure that they wore this throwback-ish combo. 12th time  in yellow-green-yellow since 1999 if you count 1 midnight green jersey. 5 of the 11 apple green jerseys were a "throwback" set. This year's yellow helmet uses the O instead of the historic UO. But this was the standard home uniform before 1998 Nike redesign.

Week 10: November 3, 2024

In an unusual Sunday uniform release (the habit has been Wed. 5pm) the Ducks showed their uniform for their big game at the Big House. It is the much anticipated last installment in their "Generation O" sets—this time called "Warp Speed" that completes the trilogy of black, yellow and now-white futuristic uniforms to compliment their green and yellow throwbacks.

Diamondplate on white has not been seen since the Dennis Dixon era of 2006-2008 personified by Oregon's last visit to Michigan!

Chrome-White-White is a relatively common combo of late. At Texas Tech last year (and with eggshell at UW, but we wont mention that game). This appears to be the 10th time since 2017. They wore it three times in 2018. But if you count gray/carbon fiber it's an even more common look going back to Chip Kelly's years.

Generation O #5: Warp Speed White and Chrome look

Rumored for months, this new look is the third in their more futuristic line of Generation O sets. Based on the same jersey template as the previous two...black and yellow, this one allegedly takes inspiration from the 2007 Michigan game set worn by Dennis Dixon and the 2010 Stormtrooper look at USC with Marcus Mariota. Both great inspirations!

2007: Oregon wins at Michigan in white with silver diamondplate

2012: Oregon wins at USC 62-51

Week 9: October 26, 2024

Homecoming at UO and the first game playing as #1 since 2012 and the Ducks get nationally ranked Illinois!

Each part of the uniform is a repeat from either the MSU or tOSU home games: the black cancer helmets and yellow cancer jersey paired with the black pants.

This combo is same as their win vs. USC last year, and the 8th time they have worn it in the modern era since they started wearing black lids. If you count Nightmare Green as "black" it is the 9th time. They have never lost in this combo!

The first time they were #1, in 2010, they wore this combo against UCLA and won.

Week 8: October 18, 2024

I was really hoping the Ducks would wear yellow-white-green, which was their standard road look in the 1990s. But back to 2024 where the Ducks are wearing yellow helmet and white jersey and pants. This exact combo is rare: the last—and only—time was a win at Washington in 2021. But going all-white has been common, but usually with green or chrome lids. Chrome over all white was the common road look in 8 games from 2017-2020.

A Friday night game after the emotional 1-point win over Ohio State! Purdue decided to go all black.

Eventhough this weekend's date or opponent are not appropriate, this weekend is the closest to the 30th anniversary of "The Pick" by Kenny Wheaton against Washington that pretty much ignited the modern era of Oregon football. So On Oct. 22, remember Kenny Wheaton's Gonna Score

Week 7: September 12, 2024

The #3 Ducks' HUGE game against #2 Ohio State brought out the all-black uniform they teased this summer.

It is basically the same helmet and jersey template as week 6. You can read about its design motifs in my post from earlier this year. It is similarr to the 2018 Jordan jersey.

This is the first mono-black uniform since 2021win against Cal. And the first all-dark since the 2022 all Nightmare win vs BYU. In Mario Cristobal's four years the Ducks wore all-dark severn times. And it's been an almost-annual combo since the first black helmet in Mike Belotti's last season in 2008.

Week 6: October 4, 2024

The Ducks showcase the yellow and black look this week against Michigan State. Read about the design of this uniform in my previous post.

It makes sense to wear very little green this game since they play the green-heavy Michigan State.

This combo has been relatively uncommon over the years, but its last appearance was in the 2023 opener. Before that the ducks wore this combo of black-yellow-yellow was a game 2 win vs Virginia in 2016. This look was most common during the Helfrich years. But they did wear nightmare-yellow-yellow in week 3 of 2019.

"Generation O" #4: "Heroes" uniform

The Ducks announced their fourth "Generation O" "Heroes"uniform just in time for their Big-10 home opener vs. Michigan State. It is their almost-annual Stomp Cancer uniforms. You can see my post from 2022 showing their previous cancer uniforms.

The release says that it is inspired/designed by Dan Lanning's wife Sauphia who is a surviver of bone cancer, and she and her boys helped design the uniform.

Quoting Phil Hecken at Uni-watch:

Helmet: The helmet is matte black, with silver wings on either side. The nose bumper features Oregon’s trademark “O” logo incorporated with a yellow ribbon, which was based the concept sketched by Sauphia Lanning. The bumper also multi-colored stripes, each representing a different form of cancer. The same pattern with the words “STOMP OUT CANCER” is featured on the neck bumper.

Jersey: The jersey is yellow, and features several “harkback” elements from previous Ducks’ uniforms. The feather design is black with some gray/anthracite, while there is also some silver/gray diamondplate pattern below the wings. The base color is yellow, in acknowledgment of Sauphia’s battle with osteosarcoma, but the helmet, cleats, gloves and sleeve patches all feature a multi-color panel acknowledging victims of all cancers. Numbers are black in Oregon’s bespoke font. On the right sleeve is a “FLIGHT +FIGHT” logo patch, which has Sauphia’s “O”/ribbon concept. This was done at the urging of the Lannings’ middle son, Kniles. The patch also features silver wings on either side of the “O” logo. According to the team, “Sauphia’s original sketch of the “O” with a ribbon included the phrase “Take Flight + Fight.” She purposely utilized a plus sign, rather than the word “and” or an ampersand, because it mimics the sign of the cross that is an international symbol for health care providers. One sleeve of the uniform has a “Flight + Fight” patch, while the other has one reading “Stomp Out Cancer” under the image of a bell, which cancer victims ceremonially ring to mark the end of their treatment.” On the opposite sleeve is a similar logo, featuring a yellow bell with the words “STOMP OUT CANCER” beneath.

In his concept uniform, the Lanning’s oldest son, Caden, suggested the use of an ice cream cone. This can be seen, along with the formula for one of the chemotherapy drugs Sauphia took during treatment, on the compression sleeves available to the players.

Pants: The uniform pants are yellow and stripeless. The final Lanning touch comes on the cleats, which feature a multi-color panel on the tip, suggested by the Lanning’s youngest son Titan.

Week 5: September 28, 2024

Oregon's first official Big-10 game, and it's at the Rose Bowl against a familiar opponent (UCLA) with a historically-familiar uniform.

This game is the first appearance of the "Generation O" throwback-ish yellow and white road uniform they teased in the summer. The Ducks had previously worn the "Gang Green" green and white the first three games.

The last time the Ducks wore this combo was in the 2021 Fiesta Bowl loss to Iowa State. This combo made almost-annual appearances the last decade, but was a real staple of the road before 1998.

The last few seasons, Oregon has used the UCLA game (and Rose Bowl) for some daring new combos like Eggshell, Pink, Ohana, Nightmare Green, Chrome etc. See my post from 2023 here.

Week 3: September 14, Civil War

It's weird to see Civil War in September, but alas better here than never.

Breaking a recent tradition of color-on-color, the Ducks play IMHO one of their best road combos. Green-white-green is a combo they have worn, mostly in winning efforts, every season since 2019. And, except in 2014 & 2018, it's made an appearance every season since 2005.

The last time Oregon wore a white jersey in the Civil War was a loss in Mark Helfrich's bad year of 2016. Ever since they have worn color. They broke the streak of the road team losing as well.

Week 2: September 7, 2024

Boise State came to town and the Ducks were really hoping for a better game than week 1, but at least it was better than their three previous losing games vs. the Broncos! They wore the same helmet (but with green facemask instead of yellow) and jersey from week 1 and added their new white pants.

This exact combo was last worn in the 2023 Civil War victory, but that was its first appearance.

But white-green-white combos have been seen in 2022, 2021, the "Duck Mascot" inspired loss in 2016, a 2015 win, the 2014 Pac-12 Championship and the 2010 Rose Bowl loss.

IMHO I'm not  fan of white pants with all green top. I can imagine they might be saving yellow for week 3 Civil War?

Week 1: August 31, 2024

It's finally here! Real live Duck football in the Big-10! and many people didn't see it (and those who did may have wanted to look away from the really messy victory over Idaho) if they live in the Pac territory and have Comcast, but that is an other story! LOL

The Ducks going mono apple green with their new template. All new, but very familiar.

The helmet is glossy apple green with yellow O. The yellow facemask with green helmet is quite rare: the only other time I can find is the 2022 Georgia game!

Mono apple is a great combo, and thankfully it's Idaho, who hasn't beaten Oregon in 6 decades. Since the last 2 times the Ducks have gone mono-green they lost! Georgia and Oregon State in 2022. They did not wear this combo in 2023, but it's been a staple of each season in the last 10 years except for 2020.

Generation O #3: White and Yellow "The Catch" Throwback-ish

To compliment their all-green "Gang Green" set they released a few weeks ago, the Ducks are showing the road white version.

So now they have green and yellow helmets with O on them; green and white jerseys; and green and yellow pants. Supposedly there will be 5 uniform reveals, so I'm expecting yellow jersey and some kind of all-white set.

Legendary Coach Rich Brooks explains the uniform......

According to their marketing machine these are mean to evoke the 1997 Patrick Johnson " The Catch" vs. Washington. But I kind of think it's a stretch (But don't get me wrong it's a nice uniform) The only thing this new uniform and that season's road uniform have in common is the warmer yellow helmet and white jersey with green numbers. Granted the vibe of this set is throwback, but not re-creation. All the rest is an amalgamation of other throwbacks and new elements:

  • Yellow helmet with stripe and modern O. 1997 was stripe-less and had UO logo.
  • White jersey with green sleeve and neck accents. Modern duckhead on sleeves. 1997 had Disney Duck and black trimmed green numbers.
  • Yellow stripe-less pants. 1997 had green pants.

The Duck/Nike team explain it more....

Generation O Uniform #2 "Gang Green"

The second uni drop happened today. See part 1 here. Supposedly they have six total? But they will need to speed it up since we only have about five weeks till opening day!

This one is called "Gang Green" and ostensibly references the the 1994-1995 season/s when they had a really good defense and went to the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl with Kenny Wheaton and Alex Molden.

The hype video plays that up.

The actual uniform is not really a throwback to that era since they already have that from last season. So it might be me being picky but I'm fine with them calling it Gang Green in a broad sense but to so intimately peg it to the 1990s seems to mix messages.  I say that because the actual uniform really calls back to Harrington/Mariota days of the last 20 years and is kind of an homage to the 2014 Mariota Rose bowl vs FSU in 2015

And even earlier in the week they teased this release with Joey and his helmet in a cute video. But that old helmet was the dark mallard green color-changing version with the first O from 1999 onwards. I personally wish they had actually brought back a dark green helmet.

But thankfully they also released a video with the talking head designers explaing that this is a homage to multiple decades so that makes it better in my mind.

So this new set has these features

  • Apple Green colorway which is linked to Mariota days and the mono-apple is famous from the Rose Bowl game vs. FSU!
  • Golden yellow that is warmer than previous lightning yellow and used in previous throwbacks
  • Collegiate block numbers that are not like any non-throwback jerseys since 1998
  • Helmet with O on the side, for the first time since a few stints in 2015-2017. But really a hallmark of the Joey Harrington and beyond years from 1999-2011. This appears to be glossier helmet than past apple green versions, but not like the mallard one that this pays homage to.
  • The non-Disney Duck head which was introduced in the 2015 season.
